Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian held a press conference on January 5. During the press conference, a reporter mentioned that the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry had issued a statement indicating that China urged the US to guarantee the personal safety of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and to release them immediately. The reporter then asked if there has been any exchange of views between China and the US regarding Venezuela.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that China is deeply concerned by the US’s forceful detention and expulsion of Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife. He emphasized that these actions by the US clearly violate international law and the fundamental norms of international relations, as well as the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. China urges the US to ensure the personal safety of President Maduro and his wife, release them immediately, cease its attempts to overthrow the Venezuelan government, and resolve the issue through dialogue and negotiation.
